How to Deal with Anger in a Healthy Way

Hi guys! Today I am giving some helpful tips on how to deal with your anger in a healthy way. You can and should acknowledge your anger, own your anger, write about your anger and talk about your anger.

If you try to repress your anger because you think it is “unacceptable” or “bad” or “wrong”, it will manifest itself in other ways. What you should not do is act out or lash out in anger. Instead here are some healthy ways to release your anger:

  • Write to the people you are angry with, just make sure you do NOT send it. If you’ve tried all of the thought stopping techniques but seem to drift back too often to the same anger towards someone or something, perhaps you need to write a letter that you won’t send. Maybe realising it into paper needs to be done for you to be able to move past it. Sometimes just the act of writing it down gets it out of your system.
  • Talk to friends or therapists
  • Take a long walk
  • Hit a heavy bag
  • Smash old dishes
  • Exercise
  • Scream in the car
  • Beat some pillows
  • Rip up paper
  • Take the opposite tack and try to calm down. Mediate, relax, take deep breaths and count to 10.

Remember that anger work can be exhausting, but expressing anger in a healthy way, acknowledging it and releasing it, is very healing.
